Mid-March Snowstorm Looks to Bring 8+ Inches of Snow to the Twin Ports [UPDATED]

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the region that is in effect now through 11 am Wednesday for heavy, wet snowfall.

What to Expect

This particular winter storm has been rather difficult for forecasters to pinpoint. One thing for sure is that it will bring a band of heavy, wet snow extending from the Mille Lacs area through the Twin Ports and along the North Shore. Two-day snowfall totals are expected to be between 6-10 inches, with a possibility of 12+ inches of snow in higher elevations near Lake Superior and along the North and South Shores.

Breezy conditions off of Lake Superior are expected to lead to reduced visibility and blowing and drifting snow. The combination of factors will make travel difficult at times, so plan ahead if you need to travel.

Timing of This Storm

Snow will continue to pick up in intensity through the day on Tuesday, with the heaviest snow for the area expected during the afternoon and evening hours of the day Tuesday. Snowfall totals in the Twin Ports for Tuesday are expected to be between 4-8 inches. Light to moderate snowfall will continue through the night and into Wednesday morning. bringing an additional 1-3 inches before tapering off later Wednesday morning.
