Mayor Emily Larson involved the public to choose our next Police Chief by surveying community members and using a Community Review Panel.  It's nice to know she values our input.  They've done their job and have chosen the two finalists who you are now  invited to meet.

According to a City of Duluth press release, congratulation are in order to:

Mike Tusken who currently serves as the interim Duluth Police Chief. Raised in the Morgan Park neighborhood of Duluth, Tusken brings over 23 years of service to the Duluth department, serving previously as Sergeant and Lieutenant. Tusken was appointed Deputy Police Chief in 2006, by Chief Gordon Ramsay.

Brian Kozak, a Duluth native, brings over 30 years of experience and currently serves as the Police Chief of the Cheyenne, Wyoming Police Department. Prior to Cheyenne, he served for four years as the Chief of Police in Avon, Colorado. Kozak also has 22 years of prior law enforcement experience in Arizona.

On Thursday, April 28, there will be a forum held at the new Lincoln Middle School auditorium located at 3215 West Third Street starting at 6:30 PM.  Thank you to the DTA, they will have free shuttle buses running every 10 minutes from Wheeler Field on Grand Ave to the school. The shuttle will start at 5:45 pm and run until 6:45 pm. Then begin  departing shuttles from the school from 8:00 pm until 9:00 pm.

After that Thursday it will be up to Mayor Larson to select our new Chief of Police based on all the information the community has helped to compile.  That's not where it ends though, it will still have to go to the City Council for approval.  The one finalist that will be offered the job will be announced either the end of this month or beginning of May.
