In giant curveball thrown following a few days of 60+ degree weather, significant snowfall is tracking into the region to start the month of May.

Because of this approaching storm, the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from 7 pm Wednesday to 7 pm Thursday for the North Shore, Minnesota side of the Twin Ports, and East Central Minnesota; and a winter storm warning from 7 pm Wednesday to 7 pm Thursday for Northwestern Wisconsin.

What to Expect

East Central Minnesota, Duluth, and the North Shore: Light rain and mixed precipitation is expected through this afternoon, gradually changing to snow this evening. Snow will continue through the overnight hours and into the day on Thursday. Depending on your exact location, a trace up to 3-6 inches of new snow is expected to fall in the areas under the winter weather advisory.

Northwestern Wisconsin: Morning rain is expected to evolve through the day into mixed precipitation by afternoon, and snow by evening. A band of heavy snowfall is expected, following a line from the Twin Cities to Hayward to Ashland. This area could see up to 6-12 inches of snow.
