Grammy nominees Maren Morris and Zedd are giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at their Target commercial in a series of photos. The ad, which features their new song, "The Middle," debuts during the 2018 Grammy Awards on Sunday (Jan. 28).

In a video taken on the set, Zedd explains that he and EDM duo Grey had been working on the track "The Middle" for a while before they landed on Morris as a collaborator. "'The Middle' has been a song we have been working on for a really long time," he says. "I started with Grey and we've been looking for the right singer. It's a really wide range, and you need a lot of energy and at the same time on the bridge you need to be really fragile and really believable."

Morris instantly gravitated to the song the moment she heard it because it's "super emotional." Zedd flew to Nashville earlier this year so she could record the vocals on the song, and weeks later it will appear in a national commercial — she's still processing it all.

"I connected really heavily with the lyrics," the country star adds. "Being a songwriter, I could really appreciate that. I loved the range and how much vocal exercising I got to do."

Morris acknowledges that it is a huge opportunity to have a video air during the Grammy Awards. She'll be attending the awards show, so it will be surreal to witness while she's there.

"I'm going to be at the Grammys, so for it to cut and go to this really large production and to have Target being the force behind this creative, it's really going to be once in a lifetime. The Grammys, it's an iconic awards show, it's all-genre," she marvels. "Me, Zedd and Grey, we wouldn't be likely collaborators since I'm from country, but it actually works so well and the Grammys is what that's all about. I think it's actually very appropriate."

Tune into the Grammys on Sunday on CBS at 7:30 PM ET to watch Morris and Zedd's Target commercial.
