Once Halloween hits, the holiday party season is officially underway and whether you are hosting a party or going to one, you should leave the 7 layer dip and bag of chips to someone else.  I recommend you bring some liquor, ice and a shaker to create your own shots to share.

That is what I decided to do in this video.  I wanted a fall themed drink that could also translate into the holidays, so I decided to have apple juice be my base.  I personally love apples and cinnamon, so my first alcoholic addition was Fireball, the popular cinnamon whisky.  While Fireball is fine, it's not even 70 proof and I wanted my shot to pack a punch.  Enter 100 proof Captain Morgan, which would pack a punch and provide more spice to my apple juice.

Thus, my Cross Eyed Apple shot was born on fly.  Overall, I think it's a good shot and it does pack a punch.  I chose an unsweetened, organic apple juice which lead to some people wanting more sweetness.  A quick fix would be to use Juicy Juice or other fully sweetened apple juice, and maybe another splash of Fireball.

The fun part of bringing some ingredients to a party to mix shots is that after one round, you take input from the group and experiment with the next round as you attempt to make the perfect new party shot together.

Here is the mix I used:

  • Nearly equal parts Apple Juice (may want sweetened) and 100 Proof Captain Morgan
  • Half part Fireball

I planned on shots for 6 people, so I used about 3 ounces of juice, just over 2 ounces of Captain Morgan and around an ounce of Fireball.

Watch the video of the shot being created below and if you give it a try, let me know what changes you made to make it even better.
