Country fans may have a good reason to tune into ABC's upcoming American Idol reboot: Luke Bryan is reportedly being considered for a judges role on the show.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Bryan, along with Lionel Richie and Charlie Puth, are on ABC and producers Fremantle Media and Core Media's short list for judging roles. According to THR's sources, Richie is a frontrunner -- a favorite among the network and producers -- but Bryan would be a logical choice given ABC's relationship with the country music community (the network airs the CMA Awards ceremony every November and a CMA Music Festival TV special each summer). Puth, meanwhile, is allegedly a longshot.

Auditions for the upcoming new season of American Idol are scheduled to begin in Florida on Aug. 17, but thus far, Katy Perry is the show's only confirmed judge. Negotiations with Bryan, Puth and Richie have not yet begun, per the Hollywood Reporter, and ABC, Fremantle Media and Core Media all declined to comment on the news outlet's story.

ABC confirmed American Idol's return in early May. The TV singing competition originally ran on Fox from 2002 through 2016; throughout its 15 seasons, the show helped launch the careers of superstars Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, as well as other well-known country names such as Scotty McCreery and Kellie PicklerKeith Urban served as one of the show’s judges during Seasons 12, 13, 14 and 15, and he has said that he would consider returning to the role.

In addition to Perry, Ryan Seacrest has signed on to return as American Idol's host.
