The scam in the story below is currently being attempted.  Also, if a man claiming to be Ed McMahon knocks on your door holding a bouquet of balloons and a big check, don't  open it.  Ed McMahon died in 2009.

 

The Duluth Police Department is warning residents about an on-going Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes scam.

Criminals are notifying victims through the mail that they have won a large amount of money from the Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes.

The letter asks the victim to call the suspects of the scam. When the victim calls the suspects, they tell them that they need to pay the taxes on the winnings (usually around $15,000) before they can collect the prize.
