Daniel Greysolon is credited with discovering the area known as Duluth MN, and Duluth, GA. He has done much more than that.

According to newadvent.org he was a lieutenant in the king's guard in 1664, he fought in the battle of Senef in 1674.

He established trading posts in Thunder Bay Canada, Detroit MI, and throughout the Great Lakes area.

According to the stories, he was one of the most feared men because he wanted control of the west and wouldn't let anyone settle it unless it was through him. He was admired and feared by white men and native americans alike.

He finally died of Gout and is buried in Montreal.
