Dreams really do come true, and Lauren Alaina is the latest example.

Alaina recently opened for Martina McBride, and her childhood self was in disbelief. She posted a photo of herself with McBride, and captioned her photo by raving about one of her early heroes.

"I grew up singing my heart out to this beautiful lady's songs," Alaina writes of McBride. "A couple of days ago I opened up for her. What would 10 year old Lauren's face look like if I could tell her that would happen one day. I imagine it would look very similar to the one I made when I realized she was watching my set from side stage. @martinamcbride thank you for being everything I dreamed you'd be."

McBride returned the compliment by raving about the former American Idol contestant's performance.

"Girl you killed it! Sang your butt off and put on a great show. Loved it and proud of you," McBride shared on Twitter.

Alaina recently released her new single, “Road Less Traveled,” which she co-wrote with Jesse Frasure and Meghan Trainor.

"You won't make yourself a name if you follow the rules / History gets made when you're acting the fool," she sings on the empowering, anthemic rocker.

The singer also recently revealed her bulimia struggles as a teen in a Facebook Live interview, making her single that much more poignant.

“I had bulimia for a few years,” she says. “I was really sick. I don’t know that person, I can’t believe that was me.”

“I just desperately wanted to be thin,” she adds. “That’s all I thought. I was obsessed with it, which it was ridiculous because I had everything going for me. I was following my dream. Everything I wanted at the time, I was getting. But I was obsessed with this other thing that was making me unhappy.”
