Last Laker Of The Season Sails Through Our Port

It’s always sad to know that we are at that point in our seasons that warrants the shipping traffic to take a short hiatus. However, it also means that Spring is getting a bit closer and we’ll soon be watching several ships enter our Port while we’re laying on a beach towel, soaking in the sun, on Park Point. Our sister TV station, the Northland’s News Center reports that the last Laker entered the Port today.
The Edwin H. Gott made its way through the piers Wednesday morning, making it the final ship to arrive in the port. The laker passed under the aerial lift bridge between 7:30 and 7:45 a.m., according to the Duluth Seaway Port Authority.
Once entering the bay, the ship stopped to get fuel and proceeded to the spot where it will stay tied up until March. The Gott is the last of eight operating ships to arrive back at port.
The locks will close Wednesday January 18 at midnight.
