Always sad to see great local businesses have to close. For more than 10 years Al and Linda Marshall created more than a gas station, it was a tradition for people in that area.  I came across this on the Duluth News Tribune website...

The One Stop, a Spur station, was one of the few remaining independently owned stations in the area.

Linda Marshall said that because of the weak economy many customers were choosing to just fill their trucks and snowmobiles with gas and not buy other items — but the store couldn’t make money on gas.

Al Marshall is part of the family that owns Marshall Hardware in the Lakeside neighborhood. They had been looking to break out on their own when the One Stop came up for sale. “We came across this and decided to make it ours,” Linda Marshall said.

The store was run by Al and Linda as well as their children, Jenny, 27; AJ, 24; and Kristy, 20. Some prospective buyers have expressed interest in the store, but the family doesn’t know what they’ll do next.

“We tried to stay open as long as we could,” Linda Marshall said. “We love this place.”
