Lake Superior Writers have announced their 2018 writing contest and its theme - rescue.

Writers can put their own twist on the word, taking it literally or metaphorically as they see fit. For example, you could write about getting through a hard time in your life or detail a time you actually rescued someone or something. Those entering should write about the word as it applies to them.

There are four different categories. They include:

  • Short-Short Fiction - 1 or 2 submissions up to 500 words
  • Short Fiction - one submission of 1,500 to 5,000 words
  • Creative Nonfiction - one submission of 1,500 to 5,000 words
  • Poetry - up to 3 poems

One winner in each category will win $250 and their work published on the Lake Superior Writers website.

Get to work! The deadline is April 1, 2018.

There is a fee of $35 to enter the contest but free for members of Lake Superior Writers. You must be 18 or older to submit your work.
