The most important safety devices in your home are your smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector.  Kidde is a very popular brand of these devices, and now they are recalling their combination units called the "Nighthawk Kidde Combination Smoke Alarm / carbon monoxide alarms."

The model number is KN-COSM-IB.  They are the kind that are hardwired into the electrical system and were sold between 2004-2010.  The reason for the recall is because they no longer chirp at the end of their life notify people that they need to be replaced.  So some people believe the units are still operational when they are not.
