Kelsea Ballerini Apparently Doesn’t Know Any Songs From 1993

Kelsea Ballerini was put to the test when she visited country radio’s Bobby Bones Show recently. The hosts played a game with the “Yeah Boy” singer that involved testing her knowledge of music from the year she was born. Spoiler: she didn’t do well.

The first song up from 1993 was Naughty by Nature’s “Hip Hop Hooray.” While she bobbed her head along and seemed to dig the music, Ballerini couldn’t quite place the song.

“I don’t know this,” she said before the chorus played, and then she began to sing along. “I don’t know what it’s called. I do know this song.” She still couldn’t tell listeners who sang the song or the title of it.

Next up was Cypress Hill’s “Insane in the Brain.” While the beat was familiar to her — likely from various commercials she’s seen over the years — the pop-country star snapped along while shaking her head.

“I don’t know. I don’t know,” she admitted with a big smile.

The entire morning show was especially shocked when Ballerini hadn’t heard Salt-N-Pepa’s “Shoop.” While she danced along to the beat, she still couldn’t name the song.

“I was a child! I was a little baby,” she exclaimed. “I like it though!”

She saved herself by admitting that she does know Salt-N-Pepa’s other hit, “Whatta Man.” Bones then tested her knowledge of the country genre, and surprisingly, she still failed when it came to another 1993 hit. Still not recognizing George Strait‘s “Easy Come, Easy Go,” Ballerini stressed once again that she was a baby.

“To be fair, this is the year that I was literally born,” she conceded.

Perhaps Lady Antebellum can teach Ballerini a thing or two about the classics when she’s on the road with them for their You Look Good Tour this summer.

So, Who Really Inspired Kelsea Ballerini’s “Yeah Boy”?
