Justin Moore After His First St. Jude Visit: ‘I Need to Be a Better Person!’

Country stars get some cool opportunities, but Justin Moore says getting to visit and talk about St. Jude is the best.

The ‘Lettin’ the Night Roll’ singer tells Taste of Country his first visit to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital was four years ago, and it changed the way he lives.

“I came away from visiting there … going, ‘I need to be a better person,” Moore admits.

At the time, the singer’s oldest daughter, Ella, was home sick with a cold, and he didn’t want to leave her behind. “Then I show up and I expected St. Jude to be a little bit sad,” he shares, “and I came away more inspired then I could even fathom.”

“I came away going, ‘A cold is OK,’” Moore furthers.

Since that first trip, the singer has been back a couple of times, but he’s also stayed in touch with former St. Jude patients and families he met through programs like Make-a-Wish. He says he’s proud that country music has continued to drive the fundraising effort for St. Jude, 25 years after Randy Owen of Alabama began Country Cares. More than $500 million has been raised through that dedication.

“We get to do a lot of really cool thing as artists and as a country music community, but the St. Jude relationship is one I’m very proud to be a part of,” Moore shares.

“No child should die in the dawn of life,” founder Danny Thomas once said. Help make that wish a reality by making a donation or becoming a Partner in Hope when we hold our annual radiothon Wednesday, March 12 and Thursday, March 13.
