A longtime supporter of the fight against breast cancer, Jason Aldean has been named a More Than Pink Hero the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Taste of Country reports that Susan G. Komen has launched their More Than Pink campaign to reduce the number of breast cancer deaths by 50 percent in the next 10 years. Their More Than Pink Heroes are being honored for their dedication to raising awareness of and funds for breast cancer research; Aldean is being given the title along with the likes of doctors and researchers, athletes and even First Ladies Barbara Bush and Betty Ford.

Aldean has become known for treating breast cancer survivors like the VIPs they are at his shows, in addition to making considerable donations to the cause. His annual Concert for the Cure has raised more than $2.3 million for Susan G. Komen, to help battle breast cancer in its 11 years.

Aldean's 2016 Concert for the Cure will be part of the eighth annual Opry Goes Pink event, set for Oct. 25. The singer will literally turn the Opry’s iconic barn backdrop pink when he flips the switch to light up the stage, and he’ll be performing alongside other artists to raise money for Women Rock for the Cure and the Nashville chapter of Susan G. Komen.

“Finding a cure for breast cancer is something I’ll continue to fight for the rest of my life,” Aldean says in a press release. “Bringing the show back to Nashville this year as part of a special Opry performance, where I will have so many friends and family in the crowd, will be a good reminder of why we need to continue to fight this terrible disease.”

Fighting breast cancer isn’t just good for the singer’s image; rather, Aldean takes the issue very personally.

“My best friend lost his wife to breast cancer, and she was in her very early 30s,” he shares. “I was there. I watched it all go down. I watched him deal with that and her go through it and her leaving behind two daughters. That to me was sort of an eye-opener.”

He adds, “I have a wife. I have two daughters. I have a mother, a stepmom, a sister … I mean, I have women in my life that are very important, and to me, it’s something I would never want to see them go through.”
