This weekend we made a trip up to Lake Of The Woods and fished out of Cyrus Resort.   It wasn't a fantastic bite, but we were able to catch some fish to bring home.  But, we wouldn't have been able to do it without a vexilar.  Our friend is a guide on the lake and he was gracious enough to let us use a couple of his units.

I've never really used one before.  I thought they were confusing and usually I didn't have a problem catching fish when other people were catching.  I always preferred the bobber method, but after about 2 hours of no bites, I decided to switch it up and figure this thing out.

I could see the fish at the bottom on the flasher, and I could see it follow my jig.  After dancing it around a bit, I finally snagged one.  I kept the method up and even if the fish didn't take it, it was a blast.  I managed to get a few more, and honestly I don't think we would have caught a single one without a flasher.  The bite was so light that it wasn't even pulling the bobber down, so we had to feel it and watch the vexilar.

So for years I've always said I didn't need one of these to catch fish.  I was in the wrong, and I'll have one for next year!

Here's a great video on how one works!
