How many times have you purchased a warranty or were promised a warranty when eventually it didn't pay off?  For me, it's been countless times.  Either the warranty had expired, I didn't have the receipt, or they came up with some other nonsense to void the warranty.  That's why I was pleasantly surprised today when unexpectedly I had a warranty come through.  And, it was one I forgot about at that!

My wife's car wouldn't start this morning.  It's been acting up lately.  I'm a do it yourself kind of guy and know my way around a car decently.  So I did some troubleshooting and came to the conclusion it had to be the starter, again.   This would make it the second time the starter has gone on this car.  Last time I went to O'Reilly Auto Parts and bought one and installed it.  I guessed it was about 4 years ago, which would make it 2012.

So I brought the old starter to O'Reilly's down the street and had them test it.  It failed the test, which I was thankful for because it finally pinpointed the intermittent problem.  I was ready to buy a new one, with my wallet in my hand when they told me it had a lifetime warranty.

What?  I didn't even remember I had a lifetime warranty with it.  It wasn't an 'upsell' add on.  It just came standard with the purchase 4 years ago.  Fortunately I was a rewards member so they could just easily look up the purchase.  I got a new starter on the spot, and didn't even have to sign a paper.

How about that?  When does that EVER happen?  I was so pleased, I felt like I needed to share the experience with you.   Thanks to O'Reilly!
