This week is National Pet Week, which happens to coincide with "Be Kind To Animals" week.  Our family has a cat, which you've probably heard me complain about periodically.   Cathy's family has two dogs, one being a brand new puppy.  (You've probably heard her complain about the puppy too.)  But we both love our pets, and wanted to take a poll of our listeners and to see if we have more "cat people" or "dog people.

First a few surprising facts:

83 Million homes had pets last year.

It's estimated that Americans spend $55.53 billion dollars on pets.

Nationally, 70% of Americans consider themselves "dog people", and only 20% were "cat people."

However, there were 74 million cats in the US in 2012, compared to onlyl 70 million pet dogs.
