The beautiful weather this weekend brought Northlanders out for many reasons. Dog walking, Grandma's Marathon training, and something you only see for a few weeks on the Canal Park Pier, Coho Salmon fishing.

This picture was taken Sunday morning after we had run to train for the Grandma's Half Marathon. We talked with many of the anglers and I discovered two things.  One, they are too shy to do a video with me and two, if they're catching any coho salmon they aren't going to share THAT info with me. We had driven over the Aerial Lift Bridge about an hour and half earlier and the pier was literally lined with anglers.  By the time we got done running and stopped by many had left for the day.  The hard core people were still there despite a rough morning of very little action (or so they say).  They did however say that Coho Salmon is SO tasty! One of the best tasting fish of Lake Superior. Have you ever eaten Coho Salmon? Is there really a difference?

I was really hoping someone caught one while I was there, I wanted to see what they look like.  They say during their ocean phase, Coho have silver sides and dark blue backs. During their spawning phase, the jaws and teeth of the coho become hooked. After entering fresh water they develop bright red sides, bluish green heads and backs, dark bellies and dark spots on their backs.  If they're still running next weekend I'm stopping again!
