After 28 seasons with the team, Hermantown Hawks boys hockey head coach Bruce Plante has announced his retirement. Plante ends his career with the Hawks on a high note, collecting back-to-back Class A State Championships with his team.

Plante told our news partners at WDIO TV that "It is just time", saying he plans to spend more time with his family and fishing. Plante has been coaching hockey for 42 years, with the last 28 of them in charge of the Hermantown high school program.

Plante's last 8 years with the Hermantown program were quire memorable, with trips to the Class A State Championship each of those years. The first 6 of those 8 years, Hermantown fell short of winning a title, and managed to get over the hump in the 2015-2016 season as they beat Breck 5-0.

Plante goes out on top with his last game with the Hawks being a thriller that will go down as one of the most exciting in state tournament history. The Hawks won their second straight title after a marathon 4-3 double overtime game against Monticello/Annandale/Maple Lake.
