The Minnesota boys high school hockey tournament begins this week and two Northland teams will be looking to bring home championships.  Hermantown will enter the tournament as the Class 1A top seed, while Duluth East was not seeded in the 2A tournament.

According to the Minnesota State High School League, the seeding process had all 16 coaches of the section champions log onto a special page of the League website. Each coach then ranked the other teams in their class one through seven. The highest and lowest rankings for each team were discarded, leaving five rankings for each team. From those rankings, the top five teams were seeded.

Hermantown (25-2-1) will play first, taking on tournament newcomer Spring Lake Park (16-11-1) Wednesday evening at 6pm.

Duluth East (14-10-4) has their first challenge Thursday at 1pm as they battle St. Thomas Academy (24-4), the number 3 seed.

Both games are at the Xcel Energy Center.

Good luck to our Northland teams!
