Gypsy Moth Spraying Finished in Superior and the Rest of Wisconsin

©entomart

Earlier this week the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture sprayed parts of Superior, waking up quite a few people with the low flying planes, and alarming others.  Even though bulletins had been issued ahead of time, it still was a surprise to some residents.  Now the Wisconsind Department of Agriculture says that the spraying has been completed and it’s deemed a success.

The planes flew at tree top level and dropped tiny plastic pieces covered in pheromones that are supposed to disrupt the mating season of the gypsy moth.   Gypsy moths are one of the most devastating invasive species to trees when they are in their caterpillar state.
