I've been broadcasting the Grandma's Marathon race for years.  Many of those years has been down at the finish line out in the elements all morning.  I think in that amount of time it's been pretty rare that the weather has been perfect.  It's always either too nice and hot, or miserable, wet, and cold.

They say its spectator weather or runner's weather.  Spectator weather would be nice, warm, and sunny.  Runner's weather would be cool, cloudy, and maybe even a little bit of lake breeze.

And then there is nobody's weather:  horizontal rain, thunderstorms, hail, strong winds, etc.   I've seen my share of all of these.  Here's a few key memories.

Thunderstorms rocked the North Shore a few years back.  It was getting close to the point of calling the race off for safety reason.  The storms blew through by 6:30 and the races went on as planned.   But standing on top of scaffolding at the finish line when lightning strikes were hitting hillside didn't feel all to well.

One year it was about 40 degrees and rained all day, horizontal rain that hits you right in the face.   Runners came across drenched.  Spectators were freezing.  My hands were so cold and pruned that I couldn't even text on my phone.  My fingers couldn't activate the screen.

And then another year it was 80 degrees and humid by 10 am.  The med tent was very busy.  It's actual pretty dangerous in those conditions, but Grandma's staff has plenty of volunteers to make it as safe as possible.

So when it comes to Grandma's Marathon you never know what you're going to get with the weather, but you can almost always guarantee that it won't be perfect!

The forecast is looking hot for Saturday with highs near 75, so not ideal for runners.
