I've been involved with Grandma's Marathon both through the media and as a runner for over 20 years.  One tradition I've always enjoyed is attending the Marsh Nelson Media Luncheon and Award Ceremony, which is always held the day before the marathon.

This year will be an even more special experience because I will get to be part of a talented team who will be receiving quite an honor.

Grandma's Marathon has announced that the 2015 Marsh Nelson Media Award recipient is Townsquare Media, who owns B105 and has been the radio broadcast partner of Grandma’s Marathon since 2007.

Our sister station, ESPN Radio 560 WEBC, provides live race coverage of Grandma’s Marathon and the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon while we provide updates race morning, help to host the entertainment events over the weekend, and provide promotional support throughout the year.

Grandma's Marathon states in their press release: "The award is given annually to a media member or group to recognize outstanding commitment to the coverage and development of Grandma’s Marathon. This special award is named in memory of former KDLH-TV sports director Marsh Nelson for his tremendous passion for covering Grandma’s Marathon and other local athletic events."

I have seen firsthand what an incredible team effort it takes to cover Grandma's Marathon from start to finish both on the air and through our digital platforms.  I am proud to be a part of the team.  It truly is a labor of love for our staff to not only work marathon weekend, but also to cover the many terrific events that Grandma's Marathon and the Young Athlete's Foundation put on throughout the year.

I would like to thank Grandma's Marathon for this honor, as well as our top shelf race day broadcasting team, led each year by Chris Allen.

We will see you on the radio, online, on the race course and all over the entertainment events again this year on marathon weekend.
