After seeing firsthand the flood damage in the Northland, and after FEMA visited our area as well, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton has has sent his recommendation for federal disaster relief to President Obama today.

Our media partners at the Northland's News Center reports that the Governor will be calling a special session of the legislature. It's not clear when this will happen but lawmakers say they're on board once they get a clearer picture of the extent of flood damage.

The belief among state leaders is that there should be minimal wait for assistance and the time is now to begin rebuilding, with damages to public infrastructure estimated at more than 108 Million Dollars.

Let's hope that within the next couple of weeks the area gets a boost with federal aid and the rebuilding process can move along at a faster clip.
