The annual City of Duluth's Parks and Rec Sand Modeling Contest and Water Safety Expo is right around the bend on Park Point on Thursday, July 20.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate with rays of sunshine and comfy temps.  Last year they had to postpone the event until a later date because of the havoc that an early morning storm inflicted on the Northland.

If you need a little push to utilize the beauty around us, this is just the event to do it and includes the whole family.  The YMCA in Duluth has teamed up with the Parks and Recreation's Annual Sand Modeling Contest which begins at 11:00 a.m.  There's tons of additional activities for your family to enjoy until 3 p.m.  It's absolutely free and everyone is invited!

Annual Sand Modeling Contest

The event will take place at the Park Point Beach House which is located at 45th Street and Minnesota Avenue.  Sand modeling teams are invited to create their own works of art in the sand from 11:00-1:30. Heads up, you need to bring your own shovels, pails, and creativity to build your masterpiece. A panel of judges will review all the sand sculptures with prizes given in several categories.

Fun In The Sun

Then, stick around for fun activities like beach tug of war, stand up paddle board demos, water balloon toss, a treasure hunt, beach volleyball, face painting, hula hoop contest and more with the YMCA staff!

Water Safety Expo

The Water Safety Expo is FREE to the public. Using games and demonstrations they teach important information about safety topics such as rescue boards, throw rings, life jacket fittings and more.   This will prove to be very valuable info for you and your family!

Take lots of pictures and share on the B105 facebook page....Good Luck!

This FREE event is sponsored by the City of Duluth Parks and Recreation, the Duluth YMCA and  Minnesota Sea Grant.
