I caught a few nice Northern's over the weekend, and luckily I had someone who was a pro at cutting out the y bones help me clean them.  The result was delicious, and I swear just as good as fried walleye.

Northerns are fun to catch, but gross when you get them.  I can't think of another fish around here that is as slimey as a Northern.  That doesn't mean their filets are slimy.  In fact, you can get quite a bit of meat out of them.  While a good eater walleye is around 10-15" inches in length, the northern pikes that I fileted up were around 24 inches.  That's a big filet and early in the summer they tasted great.

The trick is cutting out the y-bone.  A lot of people say it isn't worth it, but trust me it can be.

There are several ways to do it, but this one may be the easiest for a beginner.
