Last night The Walking Dead spin-off show 'Fear The Walking Dead' premiered on AMC.  I've been looking forward to this show for a long time, as it gives a new perspective to the zombie apocalypse.  We get to see how the end of the world begins.  I knew the first episode was going to be slow, but to my surprise we did see a zombie in the first few minutes.

The difference here is that the characters don't have a "Dummies Guide To Zombies" handbook.  This is all new to them.  They struggle with believing what is happening.  You can sense the fear.

It starts with Nick, the troubled young man who has a heroin addict.  Could there be symbolism here with him already being a zombie from the drugs?  The guy even staggers around like a zombie.  To make a long story short, he is the "problem" that this new family is dealing with.  I have a feeling that his problems will take a back seat very shortly.  You can't trust anything a drug addict says, and it was a clever way to put some mystery into the show.

'Fear The Walking Dead' has solid acting.  I've always liked Cliff Curtis who plays Travis on the show.  He deserves a hit series, and this could be it for him.   Kim Dickens plays his girlfriend Madison also plays a worried but in control mother well.  Nothing seemed off at all, and it was easy to get into the show and to care about the characters.

The first episode is slow, but that was to be expected.  For a good story to work, we need a set up and to attach to the characters.  Towards the end of the first episode, I was already starting to wonder if we would see as many shocking main character deaths as we have in 'The Walking Dead.'   We will eagerly await to see things escalate next week.
