Wait, what, Pickleball?  What's that?  The best way to describe it is a combination of badminton, tennis and table tennis all rolled into one.  So if you're good at all three, you have got to join in at giving it a shot thanks to the City of Duluth.

No "pickles" are actually used, in fact according to usapa.org it's quite possible that it was named after a dog.  The game was invented by three dads back in 1965. [history of the game].

Personally, I don't think I know anyone that plays pickleball, however there are local pickleball players that are willing to share their sport and teach us for free.  The City of Duluth Parks & Rec Department has scheduled a time when you can meet with them and learn the hottest new sport to hit America.  You can play indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court with a modified net, a ball that I would describe as a whiffle ball and a paddle slightly bigger than a table tennis paddle but with a shorter handle than a tennis racket.  Lol, how's THAT for a description!

Here's an instructional video to give you a sneak peek:

I hope I've peaked your curiosity.  If so, clear your calendar for Friday, June 24 from 6-8p and head over to the Wheeler Sports Complex tennis courts located at 3501 Grand Avenue.  They will have the necessary equipment to get you hooked on this new sport.  All ages are welcome to this free event where you'll be given instructions and a chance to try it for yourself.  If you have questions, you can call Josh Abraham at (218) 730-4314.
