The Wisconsin Stopover Initiative is developing a deeper understanding of how our western Lake Superior shoreline supports migratory birds on their amazing journey from the Southern Hemisphere to Canada. Camp Amnicon , an outdoor adventure camp in Douglas County , WI is opening its trails to the public on May 7th to meet with local, state, and national ornithologists to visit the diverse coastal habitats of the camp. A mist netting demonstration will be offered to meet the birds up close and personal Presentations will be offered covering migratory bird monitoring findings in the region and habitat status and character of Costa Rica, a region important to these local birds. Lunch will be offered followed by a opportunity to participate in a bird friendly craft to take home to enhance your migratory bird habitat.
Register for the event at www.amnicon.org/events. The fee is 35.00 and will include lunch , snacks and craft materials. Dress for the weather and light hiking.
Camp Amnicon is located in the Town of Lakeside in Douglas County. Travel on Hwy 2 to State Hwy 13. Travel north to Camp Amnicon Road. Turn north and go to the end of Camp Amnicon Rd. until you reach the camp.  In 2014, Camp Amnicon partnered with West Wisconsin Land Trust to place a conservation easement on their property.
