Thursday started a scary chain of events for the city of Ely as a fire erupted nearby around 1:30pm.  It appears that the fire started due to a spark from a downed power line.  There was anticipation that an evacuation in Ely may be coming, but there is some good news on that front.

According to to The Northlands News Center, the evacuation in Ely has been called off as firefighters from multiple agencies begin to mop up the 100 acre Wildland fire.  While it appears things are getting under control, it has been reported that several structures did suffer damage in this fire.

The fire has been fought from the air and the American Red Cross is on hand to help those affected.  While it's great things appear to be going in the right direction with this situation, our best wishes are extended to those who were impacted.
