Empty Bowls 2013
Empty Bowl is tomorrow, Tuesday, April 12.  You can join forces to benefit Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank with other Souper Heroes just by attending!  Some of these Souper Heroes started months ago when adults and children in our community started putting time and talent into making the bowls. The Sea of Bowls pre-sale starts tonight from 5-7p at the Depot, 506 West Michigan Street, Duluth. By attending, you can get first crack at choosing a fine-art bowl at a gallery-style showing.  The event is free with wine and cheese reception included. Bowls range in price from $25—$100.  There are some very special wooden bowls at the event this year that were hand crafted by the Lake Superior Woodturners using the trees that were removed from fourth street.

The Empty Bowl event will open at 10a tomorrow going until 6:30 p.m.  Bowls are $20.  However, you do not need to purchase a bowl to have a simple meal of soup. Everyone is welcome, it is modeled after a soup kitchen in which the community receives a meal, together.

FYI:  soup isn’t typically served in the bowl you choose that day. Truly, the bowls have been handled by multiple people, but if you would like to wash your bowl and use it, great – if not they continue their dedication to sustainability by providing a compostable bowl for your soup. Empty Bowl is a “green” event – all flatware, bowls, etc. are made for recycling and items like butter, sugar packets, and creamer are acquired in bulk so they produce less waste.

In it's first year, Empty Bowl raised enough money for Second Harvest to distribute enough food for 30,000 meals.  Now,  thanks to Shaye Morris, her staff and their hard work and dedication to the our Community, Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank, provides food for more than 4.2 million meals annually to people in need throughout northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin.

Consider attending to get a great meal and help feed people right here in the Northland!
