The relationship between communities and their police force has made headlines across the country, with many areas facing increased tensions.  The Duluth Police Department has a program that hopes to provide citizens a better understanding of police operations and how they serve our community.

The Duluth Police Department's Citizens' Police Academy is currently accepting applications.  This program is an informative learning process that provides an opportunity for citizens to receive 11 weeks of both classroom and field instruction regarding the various responsibilities facing local officers.  Classes are held every Wednesday evening from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm for 11 weeks.

Class attendees will receive information and instruction on a wide variety of topics from use of force to drug enforcement and even death investigation.  There will also be the opportunity to go on a ride along with an officer and even engage in actual firearms use with some of the department's specialized weapons.
