Thanksgiving brings many traditions to families across the Northland.  One such tradition for my family involves the Gobble Gallop in downtown Duluth.  It's grown year after year, and the Duluth Police Department has released a traffic advisory for the 2016 event.

Three races are offered as part of the Gobble Gallop, the first starting at 9 a.m. All races start and finish on London Road near 13th Avenue East. The race routes run West on London Road, onto Superior Street, to 5th Avenue West and back.

The following policies will in place in support of the event:

  • Parking Restrictions begin at 7:00 a.m. London Road from 10th Avenue East to 14th Avenue East, and Superior Street from 10th Avenue East to 4th Avenue West will be posted no parking.
  • Vehicles on the race course after 7:00 a.m. will be tagged and towed.
  • London Road will be closed at 7:45 a.m. from 10th Avenue East to 14th Avenue East at 7:45 a.m. for race setup and for the kid's race. Superior Street will be closed at 8:45 a.m. from 5th Avenue West to 10th Avenue East for the Race.
  • Superior Street east bound traffic will be detoured up to 2nd Street to continue east. West bound traffic will be sent up 10th Avenue East to 1st Street to continue west.
  • Lake Avenue will be blocked off at Superior Street. Access to Canal Park, Park Point, and the DECC will be down 5th Avenue West to the connector to Railroad Street, and from the freeway exits onto South Lake Avenue.

Downtown traffic should return to normal by approximately 11:30 a.m. Drivers are urged to use caution when driving in the area of this event.

Have a great run!
