I use to just be excited to GET a ride to school and not have to ride the school bus when I was young.  Can you imagine the excitement of being driven to school on a fire truck?  That's the thrill that our local Duluth Fire Department gave to kids after they won the honor of the special transportation with a fire prevention contest.

This is Fire prevention Week, October 6-12, 2013.  Again this year, the Duluth Fire Department gave the incentive to students to win a ride to school on one of their rigs.

Congratulations to the following winners that enjoyed their ride today!  The first winner was a 4th grader from Raleigh Edison, the second was a 3rd grader from Congdon, the third was a 1st grader from Laura MacArther and the last winner was from Piedmont and is in Kindergarten.  Again, congrats and nice job!  The theme for this year fire prevention week was preventing cooking fire.

On October 12, 2013 at # 7 fire station, 1419 W Maple Grove Road, from 11:00-2:00 there will be an open house. There will be a free BBQ, tours of the fire station, a chance for kids to spray fire hose and demonstrations with the new kitchen fire safety trailer!  Take advantage of the open house with your family and learn how to avoid cooking fires!

According to the latest NFPA research, cooking is the leading cause of home fire and are also the leading cause of home fire-related injuries.
