Don’t Wait In Line – Renew Your Vehicle Registration Online!
I was hooking up a trailer to my truck a few days ago when I noticed that my plates were expired. Oh crap! How did that happen? The mail leprechaun must have stolen one of my bills again. (Seems to happen sometimes.)
No big deal, I’ll just run over to the WI DMV and renew my registration. Once I pulled in I realized that I forgot what a big deal it is. I have never been in the DMV without a line being at least a 20 minute wait.
I finally got to the counter and was also reminded that they don’t take debit cards. Son of a b*%$%! Seriously? Who doesn’t this day in age? I was unable to complete my request.
The next day I decided to see if there was an online process. Sure is! It’s easy, and guess what? They take charge cards! You can do this yourself online if you’re a Wisconsin Resident at the dot.wisconsin.gov website. In Minnesota, you can access it at the Minnesota DMV website.
Minnesota will ask for you license plate number and the last 3 digits of your vin. Wisconsin will ask you for your RRN #. This number appears on your renewal notice. If you don’t have it, don’t worry. You can also click the link to look up the number by your license plate.
So a word of advice, if you’re dreading waiting in line at the DMV, you can either mail it in, or even easier do it online. Give the workers a break at the DMV and do it yourself from home!
