Now that the snow has melted, trash is washing off streets, down storm drains and heading towards Lake Superior.  Plastic and trash continually pollute Lake Superior, so the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve and the Environmental Services Division of Public Works for the City of Superior are seeking volunteers Saturday to help protect the great lake.

Saturday, April 23, is Earth Day and volunteers are invited to help clean trash before it gets into the lake.  If you're interested, plan on meeting staff at tables set up at the intersection of Lamborn Ave and N. 23rd Street, near Northern Lights Elementary in Superior.  No reservations are needed.  Volunteers are needed from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m, although you can stay as little as you like.

Dress appropriately for the weather and be prepared for the possibility of mud.  Children are welcome to attend with an adult caretaker.  Free refreshments are provided by the Red Mug Café.

If you have any questions, please call the Reserve at (715) 392-3141.  This is a great opportunity to volunteer with the family and help protect Lake Superior.

Happy Earth Day!
