Mayor Larson headed to Duluth's Lakewalk Monday morning to give everyone an update on the area, after a late-breaking winter storm wreaked havoc on the staple, shutting parts of it down completely earlier this month.

The Lakewalk is now open again. Mayor Larson says that although parts are still closed, in totality, it is open for business. Some areas are sectioned off for safety purposes until things are done melting and the city can properly assess the damage.

According to Mayor Larson, that winter storm back in October caused millions of dollars in damage to the Lakewalk area. Mid-April's late-breaking winter storm added to that large price tag to the tune of about 600,000 to 700,000 dollars.

Throughout the ten minute press conference, it was also mentioned that some of the damage can't be seen, as it is underneath the walk itself. The damage is also all over the place, from Fitger's to Great Lakes Aquarium and other places in between.

City leaders are meeting with consultants later this week to go over the damages and come up with a design plan that will fix the issues. The project may take up to two construction seasons.
