When we were running in the beautiful Northland weather this past week I saw the orange snow fence by the Aerial Lift Bridge and didn't even think twice.  By the end of the week there was something new on the bridge that caught my eye.  New electronic signs indicating to foot traffic when it was safe to cross!

The City of Duluth is concerned for the public's safety and have taken steps to ensure that all can enjoy our historic, unique, iconic span, the Aerial Lift Bridge.  If you remember, in September of 2014, I had questioned the etiquette of crossing the lift bridge in a blog after I thought the lift bridge operator had instructed us to cease our crossing and return to the street.

However, I was wrong.  He had been talking to another couple on the other side of the bridge, but that prompted a visit to the pilot house of the Aerial Lift Bridge that proved both informative and memories that I consider a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! (video links below, you'll love em')

After seeing the new electronic signs attached to the bridge this week, I contacted Dave Campbell, the City of Duluth's Aerial Lift Bridge Supervisor and he said, "We just thought with the wide variety of tourists we have around the bridge, this was a more internationally recognized way to tell people when it is ok to cross the bridge and when to wait. They were completed this week and so far the response has been very positive."

Thank you to all the City of Duluth employees that were involved to keep us and our tourists safe!
