Chris Allen’s Good Halloween Movies Off The Beaten Path
As you know when you listen to me on the air, or read my bio. I love Halloween and I love scary movies. Everyone is publishing their list this year of what is the best, and all the popular ones make that list. You know, The Shining, The Haunting, and The Exorcist. I like to watch some movies around this time of year that could be scary, and some that the whole family might like.
The Nightmare Before Christmas-(1993) Jack Skellington, king of Halloweentown, discovers Christmas Town, but doesn’t quite understand the concept. He then tries to make it his own and learns about himself.
Corpse Bride-(2005) When a shy groom practices his wedding vows in the inadvertent presence of a deceased young woman, she rises from the grave assuming he has married her.

The Crow-(1994) A man brutally murdered comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancée’s murder. Brandon Lee’s last movie, he died during the filming of this movie and they finished it to honor him with a body double. There are two others in the series.
Igor-(2008) Animated fable about a cliché hunchbacked evil scientist’s assistant who aspires to become a scientist himself, much to the displeasure of the rest of the evil science community.
Hellrasier-(1987) An unfaithful wife encounters the zombie of her dead lover, who’s being chased by demons after he escaped from their sado-masochistic Hell.
Prince of Darkness- (1987) A research team finds a mysterious cylinder in a deserted church. If opened, it could mean the end of the world.
The Entity- (1987) Supposedly based partially on a true story, a woman is tormented and sexually molested by an invisible demon.

The Lost Boys (1987) After moving to a new town, two brothers are convinced that the area is frequented by vampires.
Monsters Inc. (2001) Monsters generate their city’s power by scaring children, but they are terribly afraid themselves of being contaminated by children, so when one enters Monstropolis, top scarer Sulley finds his world disrupted.
Ernest Scared Stupid- (1991) After a misunderstanding, Ernest P. Worrell unleashes an evil troll on Halloween.
The Mothman Prophesies- (2002) A reporter is drawn to a small West Virginia town to investigate a series of strange events, including psychic visions and the appearance of bizarre entities.
White Noise- (2005) An architect’s desire to speak with his wife from beyond the grave, becomes an obsession with supernatural repercussions.
The Seventh Sign (1988) Around the world, the signs of the apocalypse–as outlined in the Book of Revelation–seem to be coming to pass in the wake of a mysterious wanderer. Father Lucci, the Vatican Emissary assigned to investigate, dismisses the occurrences as natural, but Abby Quinn, a young American woman, has reason to fear they’re real–and that the unfolding events may spell disaster for her unborn child. The Rapture (1991) The Journey of A telephone operator living an empty, amoral life finds God and loses him again. Looks into the end of the world and asks some deep questions. Maybe not a family film, and not for everyone.

Stigmata- (1999) A priest from the Vatican is sent to Sao Paulo, Brazil to investigate the appearance of the face of the Virgin Mary on the side of a building. While there he hears of a statue of the Virgin Mary bleeding tears in a small town outside of the city. Meanwhile, a young woman in the U.S. begins to show signs of stigmata, the wounds of Christ. The priest from the Vatican links up with her and cares for her as she is increasingly afflicted by the stigmata. Her ranting and raving finally begins to make sense to the priest who starts to question what his religion has stood for for the last 1900 years. Written by Jeff Mellinger <email@example.com>
