I had been seeing the previews for "The Visit" on T.V. and thought this was going to be M. Night Shyamalan's comeback film. He was the director/writer of "Sixth Sense", "Unbreakable", and "Signs". Three in a row that were hits, then "The Village" came out and it was not as successful. So, I expected the rebound.

This was not it. After seeing the ads for the movie it looked interesting, and knowing that he always has a twist was wetting my horror/drama taste buds. When I was sitting in the movie there are a lot of the surprise, or what I call, BOO! scenes. You know, it's quiet then they jump the camera. Too many times in the movie!!

Had I been a smarter person I would have discovered the twist earlier in the movie, instead I figured out the twist halfway into the movie. There were so many things that weren't real or that you were asked to believe right away without ever giving you story.

So, the film is about a woman who lets her kids visit her parents, with whom she has had a fallout when she was younger and wanted to be with an older man. The mother feels that she shouldn't let her children suffer just because she is still angry at them, so she agrees to let them take a train to visit them.

Right away, you know that she doesn't talk to them, so after years of being angry, she still hasn't talked to them but has arranged a time and week for the kids to finish. Too many odd things happening that the kids accept. The Mom is allowed to go on a cruise or trip while the kids are gone, with a man she isn't that close to.

The set up to the end and climax of the film take too long and isn't really paid off because you will figure out the twist. I found myself being bored and being angry that two kids who were very intelligent couldn't be smart enough to figure out a way to get out of this situation.

The whole film is told through the two cameras of the two kids who are making a documentary of the visit. Which is a great way to hold back a lot of information to scare you.

Here's the trailer for the movie, if you want to read the spoiler, read after the video.

******SPOILER******

These people are not the real grandparents, and there are clues that let you figure that out.. First, the grandfather says don't go into the basement, we have mold and don't want anyone sick, in movie terms that means they are hiding something if they make a point of telling them that. Second, the kids are told 9:30pm is the bedtime, not odd, but then they are told to stay in their room, that's odd. Third, there are two separate times that people show up at the house from the hospital that the grand parents volunteer at and say that the grandparents haven't shown up, the first time they come, I was fooled. The second time they come and do that, I know something has happened, they are either dead in the basement (which was the case), gone, or tied up in the basement. Another clue, the grandma spills batter on the camera on the laptop, by mistake. If she spilled batter and was that careless, why not all over the laptop. Last, one of the people the grandparents has helped is seen arguing with the couple and telling them to come back to the hospital now, and they refuse. If the grandparents love going, why would they refuse.

Holes in the story, if the girl is so smart why didn't she figure out the plot. Why couldn't she rig it up so she could use her camera as a webcam, why didn't they send footage to their mom to show her how things were going if they were wanting their mom to forgive her parents. Last, why did M. Night use crappy old music in the movie and allow a rap at the end that had nothing to do with anything except save me the money I spent because the rap summarized the movie? Ugh......Worst......Movie....Ever.
