Arbor Day is typically the last Friday in April, but the City of Duluth has an opportunity coming up this Saturday to plant trees that will be along a designated bike route.  You can  watch your tree grew year after year as you enjoy the beauty of our City.  Make plans with your family (kids are welcome with an adult) to be part of history!

The City of Duluth has chosen to celebrate Arbor Day this Saturday, May 10th from 10 AM to NOON. This is a great Mother's Day activity for the family!  Volunteers are invited to join City staff and other community members in planting boulevard trees along a designated bike route. Of course, besides the beauty they will provide a protective covering to reduce heat exposure too.

Shawna MullenEardley, Urban Forestry Specialist for the City of Duluth says:

“The canopy provided by mature trees provides shade and comfort to cyclists and pedestrians as they commute.”  “By encouraging biking and walking, we support transportation modes that are more sustainable, contribute less carbon to the atmosphere, and promote healthy lifestyles.”

The Arbor Day Tree Planting Party is open to volunteers of all ages (parents/guardians must accompany minors under the age of 18). Please bring work gloves if you have them, otherwise necessary equipment needed will be provided. Volunteers should meet at the corner of East Superior St and 10th Ave E.

Advanced registration is preferred, but not required.  To register or if you should have questions, please feel free to contact Cheryl Skafte, City of Duluth Volunteer Coordinator at 218-730-4334.

The Arbor Day Tree Planting Party is one of a number of events happening throughout May to promote alternate transportation options. May is Bus. Bike. Walk Month in the City of Duluth.
