I want to start this blog out by telling you that while this is factual, it's based on what my friends in Wrenshall and Duluth have told me and NOT from any local police department press release.  In two separate instances, in two separate communities I've had friends tell me of shady visitors to their homes asking puzzling questions and that sparked speculation.

The first was friends in Wrenshall that had a man come to their home with information on their child.  He knew their son's name, his school and what grade he was in.  They immediately became suspicious and did not confirm any of the questions this man asked.  My friend said that another neighbor also said the same man had stopped at their house.  I asked if they had reported it and she said no.  They were afraid that he was scoping out their garage, their house, etc planning on returning later to rob them.  A logical thought.

However, my other friend who lives in Duluth may have shed some light on the subject with yet another suspicious activity.  Her daughters were home when there was a knock on the door and like me when there's a knock and I'm not expecting a visitor, I don't open the door and they didn't either.  The guy stood there for an uncomfortable length of time and one of the girls decided to find out what he wanted so he'd leave.

Now let me describe this guy.  He had ridden up on a bicycle wearing shorts and a polo.  He asked what houses on her street had children living in them, focusing on high school age.  SKETCHY!  She was a smart gal and did not answer his question and he ended up riding away on his bike.

Speculation was he was finding out what homes might have children home on summer vacation.  If they were planning to burglarize a house,  they would most like shy away from those and shoot for the houses that didn't have kids and most people are at work.  I asked if she had reported the incident to the authorities and she said no, but that she planned to.

When she did, she got this piece of information from an officer that also had this type of visitor come to their home:  (again, this is NOT from a police press release, this is what my friends have had happen to them and they shared their story with me and I'm passing it on to your so you're aware)

He said that a man had stopped at his house about two weeks ago and stated that he was from Florida State and was pedaling "honor student" books.  Now call me crazy, but if someone had a student that was honor student material, wouldn't they be smart enough to think that a man on a bicycle does not represent a reputable business?

I wanted you to be aware that this is happening and that the locations are not isolated.  They are moving through the Northland.  If you should have this happen to you, please report it so the authorities can keep a handle on their location.  You just never know what their intentions are.
