Teen Develops A Text Deterring Cell App To Save Lives

An Alabama teen turned a mistake into a good thing!  He was caught texting while driving and his lesson learned, will help save lives.  He created a new phone app called "Text Pilot", and it costs a mere 99 cents to download.

US Army May Issue Smartphones for Combat Use

After a successful trial run using touchscreen phones and tablets in combat, US Army officials say they may begin equipping service members with the devices later this year. It would be used to complement tactical radios and other existing technology.

Smartphones can be used to text updates about surroundings, send GPS photos, and access maps. “When they have a problem or need to submit a report, they default to the texting. These young soldiers grew up with this technology. They’re very familiar with it. They’re very comfortable with it,” said Michael McCarthy, an Army director for the program.

Study Finds Webpages are Read By People in an F-Shaped Pattern

A new study by usability expert Jakob Nielsen reveals that when webpages are read, we read and scan the text in an F-shape.

Using eyetracking software, he found the first paragraph gets the most attention, making the top horizontal line of the F. The next paragraph only gets half the attention of the first, tracing the second shorter horizontal line of the F. And finally, we skim down the rest of the article vertically.
