Best Buy Says It Will Close 50 Big Box Stores, Cut 400 Jobs

While several elements of the economy, such as the housing market, are on the rebound, some companies are still adapting their business model.  I would think the Duluth store would be safe as that Best Buy store is really the only of its kind in the community.  That's not to say there's no competition for the goods and services it does sell.  As this story states, I think we will see less of this huge stores and more smaller specialty stores where you can get some training and other one on one things.

Where is your preferred place to buy computers and electronics?

Best Buy Co. Inc. said Thursday that it will close 50 big box stores this year and eliminate 400 jobs, mostly at

Peterson Rehab Has Vikings Optimistic

I realize football is a ways away, but with the draft approaching it's a hot topic.  For Minnesota Vikings fans, Adrian Peterson's knee will now always be a hot topic because he is such a crucial part of the any success the team may have.  You take him out of the mix and you have, umm..give me a minute....Okay, you have Percy Harvin but nobody fears the Vikings offense at all without Peterson in there.

For us in the Northland, it's a road trip to see this team in person so we at least want think we have a chance.  With that said, the news regarding Adrian Peterson is met with guarded enthusiasm.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier delivered the update Wednesday

Senate Green-Lights Beer Sales At U of M Football Games

Well, now I may go see a Gophers football game!  Only kidding, I was waiting for the team to be competitive rather than beer.   This will also help when the Vikings play there if a new stadium is approved.   I have been in TCF Bank Stadium, but that was to see a U2 concert.  Have you been there yet for football?  What did you think of the stadium?

Fans of beer and college football, rejoice. The Legislature has hammered out a compromise that would allow beer sales at University of Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium.

MN Burning Restrictions Take Effect This Monday, March 26

Even with the rain we've had yesterday and forecast for the next couple of days, we will be dealing with dry, fire fueling conditions this Spring  and Summer.  The MN DNR is taking steps to protect our environment, as best they can.

Vikings’ Chris Cook Found Not Guilty On All Counts

This should make it a lot easier for the Vikings to keep Cook on the team if they so desire.  Do you think the Vikings should welcome him back with open arms or should there be some type of penalty for putting himself in this situation?

Minnesota Vikings cornerback Chris Cook was found not guilty on all counts in his assault trial.

He was accused of

Hunting and fishing licenses in Minnesota could be increasing.  The DNR has proposed the increase because they are facing a budget shortage.  It would be the first increase since 2001, and it's been the longest time in between license increases in 40 years

Area Lakes Melting Fast, Get Your Ice House Off Now!

Yep, we were dumb.  Not by choice, but the way things worked out, no one could go get our ice house off the lake last week or this weekend.  That, coupled with the fact that we had a ton of snow, then temperatures in the 50's made it a pretty bad mess

Before Buying Review Dock And Boat Lift Canopy Regulations

The weather has certainly been giving us Spring fever.  Some of us may have already tucked the snow blower away and had our sights set on the "fun" summer toys.  The MN DNR reminds us, before we make that BIG purchase, you should review rules and regulations, so you aren't spending thousands needlessly.  Here's the skinny.

Governor Vetoes Expansion Of Use Of Deadly Force

I tend to agree with the governor in that the concerns of our law officers needs to be taken into account as they are the ones who would deal with this type of activity more than the average citizen.  What are your thoughts?

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton on Monday vetoed a bill that would have expanded the cases in which people could use deadly force, siding with objections from law enforcement who said

State Contribution To New Vikings Stadium: $398 Million

I think today brought fantastic news in that the Minnesota Vikings are as close as they've been to staying put and having a new facility that will help the entire state.  There are still some political obstacles to get over, but the momentum is positive.

After days of intense, closed-door meetings, DFL Gov. Mark Dayton and the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday morning announced an agreement for what the governor called, "a new people's stadium" in downtown Minneapolis.

Republicans: Vikings Should Only Get Loan For New Stadium

Well, this should go over like a fart in church.  If a pro sports team is of no benefit to the state, then all the businesses and people that benefit from having a professional franchise should not have to pay taxes.  Perhaps then these pantloads would see just how big of a benefit such franchises are to the state.

Saying that they had the only Minnesota Vikings stadium plan that could pass the Legislature, three Republican senators offered a plan
