On a gorgeous day getting outside is a priority for most people.  You see a lot of runners, walkers and rollerbladers.  A new campaign wants there to be more bikers, particularly in Minnesota.  I do own a bike, but only ride it around when I'm out camping or something.  Perhaps I need to upgrade my wheels and get out there!

Thursday started a scary chain of events for the city of Ely as a fire erupted nearby around 1:30pm.  It appears that the fire started due to a spark from a downed power line.  There was anticipation that an evacuation in Ely may be coming, but there is some good news on that front.

The main thing to keep in mind is to check your area for restrictions before you burn, and obtain proper permits so that you are aware of restrictions which may impact you.  Best to error on the side of caution on this.  While many burning restrictions remain in place, the Department of Natural Resources is lifting them in several northern Minnesota counties yet this week.

I've seen a lot of eagles, and I've seen them feed, but I've never seen this.  After several attempts to grab this fish and fly away, the eagle finally comes up with plan be.  Land on the fish and swim it to shore.  It's a great video!

You don't have to be out in the middle of the woods to have a bear encounter, as we all know.  Bears have hibernating and now that they are awake and it's time to eat!  As you can see, the DNR is starting to see more complaints about bears in the Northland.  While the bears aren't looking for trouble, it can still be intimidating to have them in your yard.

Your best best bet is to make sure your property is clear of food and make sure when you put your garbage out that it is full contained and not hanging out for our furry friends to smell.
