When we think of "tick season,"  we often think of spring or summer.  However, the Wisconsin Department of Health is reminding hunters that tick bites and the illnesses that accompany them can happen in the fall too.  Officials are urging hunters to use precautions before heading out into the woods.

September 7th was the date of the annual "Shoot For Fun" event that benefits the Courage Center.   This year over $160,000 was raised for Courage Kenny  - Northland's recreation and sports programming.  Not only did it raise a lot of money, but it was a blast!  Literally.

This is a one in a million shot.  These photos came from far east Russia where they have been setting up wildlife cameras to monitor engendered Amur Tigers in the Lazoovskii State Nature Preserve.   However, the camera caught something even more rare, an eagle attacking a deer.

With the excessive heat we've had in the Northland the flowers in my yard have started to get crispy.  I was out Sunday evening picking off the ones that I knew couldn't be revived.  This critter flew up next to me and started drinking nectar from the flowers and it was NOT afraid of me.  Ken tells me his dad just saw one of these for the first time in his yard last week.  Are we being infested?

My husband and I have a wood burner so we are very conscious of where we can get the wood we burn.  We found that there are certain counties in Wisconsin that won't allow the transport of wood across county lines due to gypsy moths and the emerald ash borer beetle.  I was surprised to hear that they are now as close as the City of Superior!
