Mulch Leaves With Your Mower, And Toss the Rake [VIDEO]

We have a lot of trees in our yard, and every fall it amounts to about 35-40 bags of leaves.   That's a lot of leaves to get rid of.  It usually involves me loading them in my truck and trailer and bringing them to the dump.  It's a lot of crappy work.  But this year, I'm trying something new.  I'm going to just mulch the crap out of them.

Volunteers Needed to Combat Buckthorn & Japanese Knotweed In Our Local Parks

I didn't even KNOW what Buckthorn  or Japanese Knotweed was, let alone know they were dangerous.  I thought buckthorn looked pretty until I began to read that they can choke out our native plants and make our wildlife ill.  The City of Duluth is looking for volunteers to help remove a couple different species of invasive plants from our parks in the upcoming weeks.  Can you help with this important task?

Sneaky Bow-Legged Racoon Thief Will Have You Laughing And Sharing

I saw this video shared on Facebook and it made me giggle.  I watched it again and giggled again and again.  Animals crack me up, they are literally human!  In their actions and emotions.  They show happiness with a tail-wag and remorse or embarrassment by hiding under the kitchen table when you're mad or like this racoon, they know they're being sneaky and look around to make sure no one is watching.

Duluth’s Lakewalk Slated For Seal Coating Next Week

At least the City waited until after the warmer summer days to plan scheduled maintenance.  We really shouldn't complain, the do a fantastic job of keeping our Lakewalk maintained for safety, beauty and functionality.  That's why you should be aware that they are scheduling some seal coating to be done next week and try to avoid the area they are working in.

Minnesota DNR Seeks Comment On Proposed Experimental Walleye Regulations in Northern Cook County

There could be new fishing regulations put in place, but before that happens, your input is requested.  The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking public input on experimental walleye regulations being considered for Saganaga, Sea Gull, and Gull lakes, and the Sea Gull River. All are located in Cook County, on or near the Minnesota-Ontario border. Regulations may include a 17-inch minimum size requirement and a limit of three fish, with only one fish over 20 inches allowed.

City of Duluth Fire Department Issues Dangerous Swimming Warning

It's Labor Day Weekend.  For many that means one last chance to go to the cabin, go camping, or spend some time on the beach before we get into the Fall grind of school, college, becoming chauffeur to our kids and their activities. (although the weather this weekend has been less than co operable).  For those choosing the beach option, the conditions have worsened due to the wind and that has prompted the Duluth Fire Department to issue a Red Flag Warning.

Fantastic Idea! Clothing That Repels Insects

This year the mosquito were ridiculous!  I know, I know, we had a late winter, more snow and that lead to a wet Spring.  Mosquitoes hatch their babies in water, therefore we had an abundance of the little blood suckers.  One family in Minnesota feels our pain and has come up with a great idea for those that aren't going to let the little pests keep us inside.

Duluth Citizens “Step Up” And Join The Lakewalk Task Force

Our city's beautiful Lakewalk is many things to many people.  For some it's a morning walk with the view of a calm lake.  For others, it's a place they can bring their pets for exercise.  Speaking of exercise, it's a place for people to job, run, ride bike and roller blade.  Other will remember their wedding photos taken there or falling in love walking hand in hand....ok, now I'm getting cheesy, but my point is if you've enjoyed the Lakewalk for whatever reason the City of Duluth needs your input.

Multiple Lightning Strikes Cause Damage In The Northland

It started with the the usual question to my husband, "Was that thunder?"  After we stepped outside to peer up at the sky the answer was obvious.  The rumble of thunder and the strikes of lightning were many before the rain actually hit.  My phone lit up with warnings from the three sources I have that tell me of approaching inclement weather.  We knew with the severity of the storm and the heavy rain that there would be some damage in the Northland, but we weren't expecting this.
