I had a wonderful Mother's Day, not only am I going to be attending the Def Leppard and Foreigner concert but I also received a very inspirational gift from my daughter Kylee.  Have you ever heard of a lokai?

I'm not kidding!  She was over for Mother's Day and started to tell us of a crazy robin that is stalking her.  I immediately thought about when birds eat berries and get drunk, but we're too early in the season for that.  Wait till you read this, THEN, tell me what you make of it!

I like Justin Moore songs, I like Louis Armstrong, but I NEVER thought I'd hear Justin cover one of Louis' songs!  I think it would be an honor to be asked to cover one of Louis' songs, but Justin had even more at stake this time.

May 9 will be here before we know it so now is as good a time as any to predict how the conditions will be for the Minnesota fishing opener.

My husband and I have a wood burner so we are very conscious of where we get the wood we burn.  We found that there are certain counties in Wisconsin that won't allow the transport of wood across county lines due to gypsy moths and the Emerald Ash Borer beetle.  The City of Superior is surveying the situation and considering a release of a bio-control agent.

This debate started innocently enough. My friend kept saying she didn't like rutabaga pie.  What the heck was that?  I thought maybe she meant a pastie.  She was obviously confused and after some discussion and much laughter we determined she meant rhubarb.  THEN, the debate began, Rhubarb:  Vegetable or Fruit?

Even though I am sharing this information with you, I KNOW that when I hear the sirens blow to signify the start of the drill/test this Thursday, I will wonder (usually out loud to myself), "what are those going off for now?"  You should know it's just a test, here is the schedule.

The beautiful weather this weekend brought Northlanders out for many reasons. Dog walking, Grandma's Marathon training, and something you only see for a few weeks on the Canal Park Pier, Coho Salmon fishing.

A press release I received from the City of Duluth informed of an upcoming project that will replacement a Sprint telecommunications pole with a new permanent mono-pine tower in Chester Bowl Park on the upper hillside. The project will begin on April 13 and that may cause some trails to close temporarily.

It's hard to believe in just months, we'll strolling through the beautiful Rose Garden in the City of Duluth near Lake Superior, without a jacket on, because as I write this blog, we have a wintery mix expected for the next couple of days.  Of course, to reap the benefits of the garden's beauty, the hard work has to start now and you're help is needed.

Kevin Koen has been making maple syrup for the past 30 years.  Ten of those years have been in my hometown of Wrenshall.  Amazingly, it takes 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup.  Kevin and his friends spend hours upon hours boiling sap to perfection, making delicious hand-crafted maple syrup.
